Did Christ go to hell after he died? | the Cripplegate

When I was a child I was raised in the Methodist church. Every Sunday as the service ended we all stood and recited The Apostles Creed:

1. I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

2. And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord:

3. Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary:

4. Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:

5. The third day he rose again from the dead:

6. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:

7. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead:

8. I believe in the Holy Ghost:

9. I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints:

10. The forgiveness of sins:

1l. The resurrection of the body:

12. And the life everlasting. Amen.

Millions of Christians have recited, or are still reciting this creed and may have wondered about verse four above. Follow the link to see a concise, Biblical answer to the age old debate.

Justice-300x200

Does the Doctrine of Hell Make God Unjust?

Jesus came the first time to be a servant and to sacrifice himself for MY SIN AND YOURS. When He returns it will be to bring justice to this fallen world. Those who are NOT IN CHRIST will cry out asking the mountains to fall on them to hide from His wrath. Those who are IN CHRIST will welcome Him with great rejoicing. The entire world will finally understand the meaning of the word JUSTICE.

Downtown Abyss: The Location of Hell

You get the distinct impression that Clint Archer’s Downtown Abyss is quite different from Downton Abbey. Clint is working on a book about, of all places, Hell. This is a topic that holds fascination for most of us, but it is a rather morbid fascination much like the almost overpowering impulse to slow down and gawk at a roadside accident on the freeway. We want to see what happened but prepare ourselves for the possibility that an all too grisly reality is about to intrude on our domesticated existence. You may be aware that Jesus Himself spent an inordinate amount of time in His sermons on the topic of Hell; what it was most like, a fiery furnace,( Matt 13:41-42 ),  an environment without adequate climate-conrol, (Luke 16:24), and the place of the damned beside Satan and his angels.(Rev 20:14-15) In other words, you might want a peek at it, but the peek Jesus gives is more than enough to convince you that you really don’t want to live there.
