Exodus 4:10 Moses said to the LORD, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” 11 The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? 12 Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” 13 But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” 14 Then the LORD’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you.15 You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. 16 He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. 17 But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.”
Moses was presented with the unexpected command from God that he was being appointed to lead the children of Israel out of Egyption bondage and into the promised land. As we see in Exodus 4 beginning at verse 10 Moses reacted the way WE might have reacted. “Uh…Lord, I’m not much of a speaker. I get scared when I stand up in front of a large crowd. I stumble over my words, I stutter and stammer and can’t think clearly. I say “uh…a lot. and I say “you feel me’?” even more than that.” Did God say “OK, Moses, forget about it I wasn’t thinking clearly.” ?? NO.
He said, “Who made your mouth? You think I don’t know EVERYTHING about you? Now GO: I will tell you what to say.”
And Moses (his knees probably shaking) said, “Please, Lord send someone else. I just don’t wanna go.” [WRONG ANSWER!]
The last thing you want is to kindle the anger of God. But despite that, God provided Moses with his brother Aaron to act as his spokesperson. God showed Moses compassion but He didn’t let Moses wriggle out of the assignment.
God didn’t let Moses’ fearful responses rob him of his future. When God gives you an assignment, he doesn’t leave you empty handed, he will provide you with every tool necessary to accomplish His goal. In Moses’ case it was Aaron. In your case it may be something else. But He will not fail you, or forsake you , or leave you to your own devices.
