Woman Has Abortion After Devastating Rape, 13 Years Later She Regrets Aborting Her Baby

A popular Irish singer recently shared a devastating story about a friend’s rape and abortion to explain why she does not support legalized abortion in Ireland.

Mary Burke (pictured), who leads the band Crystal Swing, told the Irish entertainment site RSVP Live that she will vote “no” Friday on the referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment, which protects unborn babies’ right to life.

“Personally, I know somebody who was raped and had an abortion. She is still devastated 13 years later,” Burke said. “She never forgets the baby that was aborted. It is a human life.”

The singer said it’s difficult to argue with the science that life begins at conception.

“I believe in the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death,” Burke said. “This is a baby that’s in there, it’s human life, we all began that way and I couldn’t condone abortion in any way.”

She said looking at her two young grandchildren also cemented her views about abortion.

“My daughter Dervla has had two babies in the past year and a half and one day I was looking at the little baby boy on her lap and I was thinking to myself, my God, if she was to take the life of the little baby boy sitting on her lap, there would be uproar,” Burke said.

“But to think that she could go into a doctor’s surgery and take the life of the baby in her womb, it just doesn’t bear thinking about,” she continued.

Currently, Irish laws protect pregnant mothers and their unborn babies equally. And Ireland is one of the safest places in the world for pregnant mothers and their babies.

Ireland is just days away from the critical abortion referendum vote. Abortion activists, backed by some of the world’s richest men, are pushing the pro-life country to legalize abortion on demand on Friday, May 25.

If the amendment is repealed, government leaders plan to push a proposal to legalize abortion for any reason up to 12 weeks of pregnancy and up to six months in a wide range of circumstances.
