Texas Lt. Governor Won’t Let Sandra Bullock Film Wendy Davis Movie in the Senate Chamber

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said he will try to prevent a new movie about late-term abortion activist Wendy Davis from being filmed in the state Senate chamber.

The film, starring Sandra Bullock as Davis, is called “Let Her Speak.” The film will center around the former state senator’s fight to keep late-term abortions legal in Texas. Davis is best known for filibustering legislation in 2013 that would have protected late-term unborn babies from abortions in Texas. Since then, Davis has taken her pro-abortion show on the road as a speaker at various events and an advocate for the Planned Parenthood abortion company

The Statesman reports Patrick, who is pro-life, does not think the filmmakers should have access to the Texas Senate chamber for their pro-abortion film.

“If I have anything to do with that, I’m not going to let them use the Senate chamber to shoot because they have already disgraced it once. I’m not going to let them do it again,” Patrick recently told Texas Public Policy Foundation.

Patrick also said he received a copy of the script and, while he has not read all of it yet, he did complain about one of his character’s lines. He said the script portrays him as a “villain” and has him using a curse word to criticize Davis.

“I’m a long way from being a perfect person … but I don’t curse,” he said.

Patrick said he and his wife joked around about who will play him in the film. He suggested Brad Pitt or George Clooney, while his wife suggested Dan Aykroyd “like he looks today.”

It is not clear if the filmmakers requested use of the chambers.

Many pro-lifers expressed disappointment late last year when the filmmakers announced that Bullock would play the late-term abortion activist. Bullock is one of Hollywood’s most well-known actresses, having done of wide variety of well-received rolls. However, her acceptance of the role has not gone over well, given that most Americans do not support late-term abortions.

Patrick said he was disappointed, too, the Houston Chronicle reports.

“Sandra Bullock,” he said. “I used to like her.”

Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal are on board to produce the film through the Escape Artists banner, according to Variety. They said the film will focus on the day in 2013 when Davis filibustered the late-term abortion ban, as well as her journey to prominence.

The film was announced late last year. It is not known when the film will be in theaters.
