A Houston teenager was charged with supporting ISIS and distributing instructions for making explosives, KHOU.com reported.
Eighteen-year-old Kaan Sercan Damlarkaya, a native-born U.S. citizen, told a federal informant he wanted to die in “martyrdom,” according to court documents.
The charges against him, of providing material support for a terror group, include plans he allegedly had for a firearms attack in the U.S. He is also charged with illegally giving instructions on how to build an AK-47 or AR-15 assault rifle from readily available parts and how to avoid detection.
Authorities also have evidence Damlarkaya wanted to travel overseas to fight for ISIS if he was unable to carry out an attack in the U.S. They say he even asked to make a farewell video which he wanted broadcast if he died in the attack.
Court documents state Damlarkaya gave instructions to fellow ISIS supporters about how to use Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP), an explosive, with directions on how could be used in a pressure cooker bomb loaded with shrapnel.
He also devised way that he could carry a machete or Samurai sword instead of a knife that be undetectable by authorities.
Last November, Damlarkaya is reported to have said about law enforcement officers, “if I buy a gun or supplies for a bomb, they will heat up pressure (just) like a few months ago when I was trying an operation but they found out.”
The complaint also states Damlarkaya said he tried to get to Syria on two occasions but was thwarted.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
Damlarkaya is the third Houston-area resident arrested for supporting ISIS in the last few years. Last week, Asher Abid Khan, 23, of Spring, pleaded guilty to supporting ISIS. Omar Faraj Saeed Al Hardan, 25, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 18 after he pleaded guilty to an ISIS bomb plot in the Houston area.
