Amy Mendoza just didn’t feel like she was ready for another child when she walked into a Colorado Planned Parenthood for an abortion.
Mendoza took the first of two abortion drugs at Planned Parenthood, but today, her son Cruz is alive because of the abortion pill reversal procedure.
“Every time I look at him, I’m just so thankful,” Mendoza said of her son.
Mendoza said she immediately regretted what she had done after swallowing the first abortion drug. Fortunately, she remembered something she had seen on Facebook about abortion reversals, according to The Federalist.
Planned Parenthood did not tell her about this choice, this chance to reverse her abortion and give her son life. Quite the opposite, the abortion chain told Mendoza that she had to take the second pill because her abortion could not be reversed, the report states.
But Mendoza decided to try anyway. She found Bella Natural Women’s Care, a health center that offers the abortion pill reversal treatment and other resources for pregnant and parenting moms. The health center was able to give her the reversal treatment and save her son’s life.
The first abortion drug, mifepristone, or RU-486, works by blocking the hormone progesterone and making the womb inhospitable to the unborn baby. One or two days later, the woman takes a second drug to induce contractions and expel the dead baby.
About 10 years ago, Dr. George Delgado and Dr. Matthew Harrison discovered that they could counteract the first abortion drug by giving the mother injections of progesterone and potentially save the unborn baby’s life.
Research still is being done on the treatment, but what has been done so far shows it to be safe and effective for mother and child.
Delgado said the survival rate for unborn babies after the treatment is 60 percent to 70 percent. The effectiveness partly depends on how soon the treatment begins after the woman takes the drug; within 24 hours is best, according to their research.
Mendoza is just one of approximately 300 mothers who saved their unborn babies’ lives by undergoing the pioneer abortion pill reversal treatment.
Rebekah Buell is another grateful mother. She became a national spokeswoman for the cause after her son, Zechariah, was saved.
Several years ago, she was a young, single mother struggling through a messy divorce when she discovered she was pregnant again. Buell decided to have an abortion, but she immediately regretted it. Buell also found the abortion pill reversal website, and immediately visited a doctor to begin the process to save her baby’s life. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy, Zechariah, more than two years ago. Now, she testifies to legislators about the value of the abortion pill reversal information.
Karen Raya also was in a difficult place in life when she sought an abortion earlier this year. Just 19, the California young woman told NBC 7 in San Diego that she was fighting with her baby’s father, attending school, working and trying to raise her first child when she learned the news of her second child.
Not sure how she would be able to cope with two children, Raya decided to have an abortion. However, she quickly regretted her decision after taking the first abortion drug. She also was able to find a doctor who reversed the effects of the pill and saved her unborn daughter’s life.
