Donald Trump is now the president. So how then shall we live as Christians? Here are 11 resolutions for living in Trump’s America.
By the power of the Holy Spirit…
I will not gloat over victories won, nor despair over contests lost. I will rejoice over things that are good, right, and true, and I will weep with those who are weeping.
I will rejoice and grieve with real people in my real community, not the ephemeral “community” of those on social media.
I will not foolishly assume that a man or government is responsible for the greatness or downfall of a nation, nor will I believe the opposite lie that their actions affect nothing. Instead, I will pray, act, and trust the God who controls the king’s heart like a stream of water.
I will not panic or despair over what might come, but will joyfully live life for the glory of God, knowing that I can let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also, the body they may kill, God’s truth abideth still, his kingdom is forever.
I will pray and stand against all forms of racism, sexism, and any other unbiblical “ism”.
I will love those who voted differently than me, just as I want them to patiently love me.
I will lament my own sins, failures, and weaknesses more than I focus on what I believe is “wrong” with others.
I will not make the ridiculous assumption that I see all issues more clearly than others as if I somehow have cornered the market on insight and wisdom.
I will submit to the authority of the current president as long as that submission does not bring me into conflict with scripture.
I will honor the current president despite the fact that I did not vote for him or for his opponent.
I will place my hope and security in the kingdom that is truly coming, and not a nation which can so quickly rise or fall.
