It has long been my belief that individuals born in the United States simply because their parent happened to be on American soil at the time, shouldn’t be declared U.S. citizens. If the parent is here illegally, or on a tourist visa, or work visa, the child born on U.S. soil should inherit the citizenship of their parent. The only child born in America who has the right to be declared a citizen should be the child of at least one U.S. citizen. NO European country allows birthright citizenship in the manner we do. Out of 194 countries a recent study shows only 30 who grant a form of birthright citizenship. We need to make this part of the change in immigration and citizenship reform debate.
